History

The history of the German Shepherd is rich and fascinating. The breed developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Germany. The beginning is associated with the legendary dog "Hektor," who was an exceptionally talented animal with outstanding working qualities.

In 1899, the German cynologist Max von Stephanitz, along with other enthusiasts, founded the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (Society for German Shepherd Dogs) with the aim of standardizing and improving the breed. They established strict standards for temperament, appearance, and working qualities.

The breed quickly gained popularity due to its exceptional abilities in various fields such as herding, police work, search and rescue. During World War I, the German Shepherd served as a military dog and solidified its reputation as one of the most versatile working dogs.

Over the years, the German Shepherd continued to be one of the most popular breeds in the world, thanks to its intelligence, loyalty, and ability to adapt to different roles and environments. Today, they are valued as service dogs, household pets, and sporting partners worldwide.
